AN ENCRYPTED CONNECTION TO YOUR MAIL SERVER IS NOT AVAILABLE

When using a mail application for sending/receiving an email, users may face issues. One such issue is encountered by most Outlook users – “an encrypted connection to your mail server is not available.”

This issue occurs when users try to connect their Outlook account to Exchange using Exchange auto-discover. To resolve this error, click the Next button on the error screen and try to connect Outlook to Exchange using an unencrypted connection. If your account is connected to Exchange successfully, it means the error is fixed. Otherwise, try the following troubleshooting methods to fix the “an encrypted connection to your mail server is not available” error.

Using Outlook Web App

Try to access your Outlook account in Exchange Online using the Outlook Web app.

  1. Open a browser on your computer.
  2. In the address or search field, type the Outlook Web App address and tap Enter.
  3. Perform the on-screen instructions to access the account.

Setting up your Outlook account via POP3

Use the Post Office Protocol (POP3) connection to set up your Outlook account in Exchange Online and check whether the “an encrypted connection to your mail server is not available” error is resolved.

If the same error persists, check and install the latest software updates on your computer. After installing the software, restart your computer.

Now, use Exchange auto-discover to connect your Outlook account to Exchange. 

If you’re encountering this error with Outlook 2016 on Windows 7, follow the below instructions to fix it.

  1. Open the Mail window on your computer.
  2. Click Show Profiles.
  3. Select and delete the Outlook profile that you’re encountering the issue.
  4. After deleting it, create a new profile.
